What is Connecting Leeds

In 2016, we started our biggest-ever transport conversation in which over 8,000 people told us what’s important to them and for Leeds.

Leeds transport strategy

Our draft transport strategy sets out our vision for Leeds to be a city where you don’t need a car, where everyone has an affordable zero carbon choice in how they travel.

We expect the final strategy will be adopted in summer 2021.

Our plans

We’ve made a good start with cleaner buses, park and ride hubs, major highway improvements, cycling infrastructure, and potential new train stations. But there’s still much more to do, we plan to:

• create a new Leeds high frequency bus network – over 90 per cent of bus services will run every 10 minutes between 7am and 8pm
• develop three new rail stations for key development and economic hubs serving Leeds Bradford Airport, Thorpe Park and White Rose
• provide 2,000 additional park and ride spaces
• one thousand more bus stops with real time information
• provide better connectivity across areas, for example between communities along the outer ring road
• double bus patronage within 10 years from 2016 levels
• promote more bus operator investment for new, comfortable, and environmentally clean buses
  
• build the East Leeds Orbital Road
