Problems paying your rent

Let us know if you are worried about paying your rent so we can help as soon as possible.

How we can help

Please tell us if you are having problems paying your rent, and we will:

  • listen to what you have to tell us
  • discuss payment plans that you can afford
  • help you find out if you’re entitled to any benefits
  • direct you to other organisations that may be able to help

The Money Advice Service can also give you advice about dealing with debt.

What happens if you don’t pay your rent

If you don’t pay your rent on time you will be in arrears. We will send you a letter if your account goes into arrears.

If you are in arrears you might lose your home.

We want to support our tenants to pay their rent, but if arrears reach an unacceptable level we can:

  • apply to the County Court to request a possession order of the property
  • request an order for court costs, which are added to the arrears
  • cancel an application for re-housing

If you are evicted for not paying your rent and still owe us money, we will contact you to arrange payment.
