School Streets are part of our ambition to make Leeds the best city for all our children and young people to grow up in, be a city where you don't need a car, and to achieve Vision Zero by 2040 (by 2040 no one will be killed or suffer serious injuries on roads in Leeds).
If you live or work on a School Street, this scheme should help to address issues around illegal, inconsiderate, and dangerous parking and congestion.
Current School Streets
School Streets are currently, or will shortly be in operation at a number of schools across Leeds. You can find these on an interactive map.

Apply for a School Street
You can speak to your local school who can apply by completing a short application form or emailing schoolstreets@leeds.gov.uk to ensure initial selection criteria are met.
Access
If you live or work on a School Street, to enter during restricted times apply for a School Street access permit or visit your local Community Hub.
Residents can apply for up to three access permits and one visitor permit. Business can apply for up to ten access permits.
Most vehicles cannot drive on a School Street during restricted times. Some exemptions, including Blue Badge holders, emergency services and liveried delivery vehicles, do not have to apply for a permit and can access School Streets at any time.
Compliance and enforcement
West Yorkshire Neighbourhood Policing teams and Council Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) visit each School Street periodically to enforce the School Street Order (police) and any other parking restrictions in the vicinity of the schools (CEOs).
Reporting obstructive or nuisance parking
If a vehicle is blocking access to your driveway you should first ask neighbours if they know who the car belongs to, so they can move it.
You can also report parking over a dropped kerb to the police on 101 for causing an obstruction or complete an online form.
Research and road safety
Research shows that School Streets can help to reduce the overall number of vehicles in wider neighbourhoods, because more people choose to walk, scoot or cycle to school. Levels of parking in nearby streets will be monitored before and following the implementation of School Streets.
We have carried out risk assessments on the routes between Park and Stride sites and the schools will take steps to reduce any hazards.
Research from around the UK - Sustrans blog: Monitoring the impact of School Streets: safety and traffic displacement shows that there is no increase in road safety issues when School Streets are introduced.
